Megan Bertino

Major: Politics

Best Class Taken at CUA: SEM 246 – Introduction to Modern Standard Arabic

What's your most memorable memory?

Working with Alpha Phi Omega to sponsor a Merit Badge University for Boy Scouts in Washington, DC and Montgomery County in February 2012. We put so much hard work into the event and it paid off because I was able to see the look of achievement on the faces of over one hundred boys.

Why did you choose to give back?

I can honestly say that coming to CUA was one of the best decisions that I have made in my life, and I give back so that others may have the opportunities that I have been afforded here.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Let's make the most of the time we have left here!

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Senior year may seem like it's still far away, but time really does fly!

Kelley Anne Carney

Major: Politics

Best Class Taken at CUA: Political Theory with Dr.Schneck

What's your most memorable memory?

It would be have to be a three way tie between Snowmageddon freshman year, flocking to the White House sophomore year after Osama Bin Laden was killed, and consistently making the NCAA tournament three years in a row (hopefully a fourth) for women’s lacrosse.

Why did you choose to give back?

I choose to give back because it is our contributions that will allow future students to have the same, if not better, experiences and opportunities. CUA has allowed me to grow inside, and outside the classroom and without these involvements I would not be the person I am today.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

It may not have been the easiest four years, but it sure has been a lot of fun thanks for the memories and friendships. Good luck with everything for next year, and enjoy what is left of your collegiate career.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Make the most of your last year, whether that be getting involved on campus, making an effort to explore the city, or simply being with friends. Savor the time left here, and don’t get too stressed about your plans for after college, everything will work out.

William Conlon

Major: Politics

Best Class Taken at CUA: Introduction to International Relations

What's your most memorable memory?

My favorite memory at CUA is anything that involves being with the people that I've grown to love. But particularly, I enjoyed the Great Gatsby Ball junior year, or partying at the White House sophomore year.

Why did you choose to give back?

CUA helped to shape and mold the person I am today, and will continue to guide me to become the man I want to be. Looking back at these past four years, through triumph and tragedy, there's no place I'd rather be. Giving back allows those that follow us to feel the same way.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Giving back is more than just donating to the school; it is a way of saying thank you for the past four years.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Enjoy senior year, and don't try ti grow up too fast. You only have one senior year.

Erin Daverese, Co-Chair

Major: Accounting

Best Class Taken at CUA: Accounting 305 with Professor Kirst

What's your most memorable memory?

Southside - Spellman ‘09-’10
Rugby
World Youth Day - Spain Summer ‘11
Roma - Spring ‘12

Why did you choose to give back?

I will give back to CUA because of all it has given me. It has given me endless opportunities these past 4 years and I want all who attend CUA to have the chances I have had and more.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Let's leave our mark here, and lets start it with our donations. It does not matter how much we give, what matters is how many of us give. The more of us that donate the more money we raise as a class, and this year we will raise money for our own causes. Which means you can give your donation to anywhere in the school. Let us show the rest of CUA how we can work for a cause and all join together as the Class of 2013.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Remember that you regret the chances you did not take more than the chances you did take. Whenever the opportunity rises to take a new chance always go for it.

Devon Flanagan

Major: Finance

Best Class Taken at CUA: Management Theory and Practice

What's your most memorable memory?

In the fall of my freshmen year, CUA Women's Soccer won the Landmark Conference Championship. With one game left before playoffs there was a three-way tie for third place, which meant if we lost we wouldn't be going to the playoffs at all. After knocking off our rivals Moravian to secure the third seed spot, we went on to win the championship game on our home field. This is especially memorable to me because it was the first time I was part of a CUA community.

Why did you choose to give back?

I chose to give back because while every student pays a tuition to learn in the classroom and obtain a degree I believe that CUA has taught me more than what I have learned in my classes. I think that it is important to show my appreciation for the lessons that CUA has taught me.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Whether it is $1000 or $1 donating to CUA is less about how much you give and more about why you're giving. It is a chance to thank that person, organization or department that made your time here special. Showing appreciation like this will make a difference in you but it can also make a significant difference to whom you give.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Slow down and take in CUA. Enjoy the little things and the things that make you happy because when graduation approaches those are the memories that you cherish.

Kelsey Gibson

Major: Nursing

Best Class Taken at CUA: Women's Health Clinical

What's your most memorable memory?

It's a tie between Snowmaggedon 2010 and going to the White House after Bin Laden's death during finals week sophomore year.

Why did you choose to give back?

I wanted to be able to give back to the school that has given me so many opportunities and advancements, and helped me grow into the person and leader that I am today, and will continue to be after graduation.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Thanks for the greatest four years of my life, and enjoy every second!

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Explore the city as much as you can (not everyone gets a chance to live in one of the greatest cities in the country), work hard and plan for the future, and of course, enjoy it, senior year only happens once!

Joe Hubbard

Major: History

Best Class Taken at CUA: The best class I’ve taken at CUA was Controlling America’s Borders with John Liddi.

What's your most memorable memory?

The Inauguration of President Garvey and Founders Day Ball were my two favorite memories at CUA.

Why did you choose to give back?

I think it’s important to start giving back now while I am still committed to the University and while I fully appreciate the experiences I’ve had here at CUA. This University has already given me so much that I wouldn’t have found elsewhere, so I want to do what I can to give back.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

I would like for all seniors to know how important it is for us to give back to the University, and to do so now. What’s important is not how much we give, but that we give. The more participation we have now, the better opportunities future students will have. Give back what you think you’ve received.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Focus on what’s here and now more than on what’s to come. Both are important, but one will end at graduation, the other never ends.

Karoline Krekorian

Major: Psychology, Minor in TRS

Best Class Taken at CUA: Psychology of Women & Men with Dr. Glass

What's your most memorable memory?

My most memorable memory at CUA was Founders Day Ball last spring. Beginning in January, I was tasked with assisting in planning this event along with several other Program Board Members and a Founders Day Ball Committee.  On the beautiful day in April, I watched the tent go up, the decorations become assembled, and the whole event come together. At the Ball, I truly felt a sense of CUA community because everyone was there to celebrate the founding of our University.

Why did you choose to give back?

Through the ways that I have grown as participating in many CUA activities, I feel it is my responsibility to fulfill this role.  It was a natural feeling to give back due to my experiences CUA has given me.  Throughout my time at CUA, I have excelled in leadership and academics and have been given many opportunities. I am so thankful for them and I would like incoming students to have the phenomenal experience that I had.

Why did you choose to give back?

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

As cliche as it sounds I want to wish everyone good luck with what comes next. I am scared and anxious to get out to the real world, as I am sure many of you are, but I trust that the Catholic University of America has prepared us all to do great things.

What's your most memorable memory?

My most memorable memory is working my first Orientation as an Orientation Advisor. I was introduced to Catholic in a new way, and my appreciation for the school grew tremendously. My role as an Orientation Advisor changed my role at Catholic for the best.

Why did you choose to give back?

I chose to give back because I understand that a program cannot succeed from one person alone. Each programs success builds on one anothers to contribute to the success of Catholic and to making it the type of community it is today. Giving back creates fellowship, and makes the CUA community as unique as it is. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Remember that bucket list of things you wanted to accomplish before you graduated but thought you had four years to cross everything off? We only have about 6 months left. You better get started.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Take everything one at a time during the first semester of your senior year. You’ll never accomplish half the things you hope to if you are too stressed about everything else. Be excited, not upset, the first time you tell someone you are a college senior. It’s a huge accomplishment that you wont realize until after you graduate and can’t say you are a senior anymore.

Molly Thompson

Major: International Economics and Finance

Best Class Taken at CUA: Principles of Economics I (Honors) ECON 103 with Dr. Aguirre during the fall of my freshman year

What's your most memorable memory?

I have had so many great memories from my time here at CUA that it is hard to name the most memorable.  However since I must, I would have to say that my most memorable memory at CUA happened when I returned this fall after studying abroad for my entire junior year.  During the first week back, I was asked by people who did not know me if I was a freshman, a sophomore, a junior, and even a graduate student, but no one asked or assumed that I was a senior!  I am not sure what that means, but I will always remember it and laugh.

Why did you choose to give back?

I choose to give back to CUA because I have been given so many opportunities during my time here that I never would have been given at any other university. These opportunities have shaped who I am and what kind of person I want to be after I graduate.  I want to ensure that CUA is able continue to offer opportunities to future generations of CUA students.

What message do you want to give to your fellow Seniors?

Our four years are almost over, and we will say goodbye one last time to this school that has given us so much.  Think about what your life would be like without CUA, without the friends that you have made, without the crazy memories.  We have all had our high and low moments during our time as undergraduates, but it is up to you to focus on the good and not become bitter by the bad.  After thinking about everything that you have gained in these four years, think about what you want to be remembered for because we have not graduated yet.

What advice do you want to give to next year's Seniors?

Senior year is not something to be taken lightly.  With graduation growing closer, it is easy to find yourself focusing too much on the past and the good old times or the future and the life after graduation, but what you have now is the present.  Focus on that and enjoy it because before you know it, the present will be the past.
